I know it’s Saturday, and we’re supposed to be relaxing, but I wanted to share a message with you as we begin the 2022-2023 school year.
As a principal, I’ve had the luxury of working with hundreds of students with disabilities. My message to their parents has ALWAYS been – ” Your child’s disability has nothing to do with their ability.” I was reminded of that when visiting my mom years ago.
While working with a small group at my mom’s adult daycare facility, I worked on a puzzle with one of my mom’s classmates. She was good at matching the pieces. However, her method was a little different. Well, midway through completing the puzzle, she said – “You know I’m Blind, right? Before I could even respond, she stated, ” That doesn’t matter, though. I still have my vision of completing this puzzle. And as long as I have my vision, I’m good.” WOW!!!
With that being said, I’m asking you what’s your vision for the 2022-2023 school year? As we move throughout the school year, don’t be distracted by the pitfalls, trials, and tribulations. It’s imperative that you stay focused and continue moving forward on your vision regardless of your temporary blindness (setbacks). As a leader, you have been given a puzzle of success, and you must complete it. As long as you stay focused on your vision, “you’re good.”
What a powerful message from Ms. Rachel.
